# Activate Connections

> Activation is the one-time setup that makes a connection usable for your app.

Most eID providers need to know who relies on their data before they release it. **Activation** is that onboarding, done once per app and connection in the Console under **Configuration → Connections**.

Activation belongs to one app. Activating a connection in a sandbox app does not activate it in a production app.

## Activation types

The provider decides the type:

| Type | What you do | Sandbox | Production |
| :- | :- | :- | :- |
| **Direct** | Confirm your company and display name | Click **Instant Activate** | Active on submit |
| **Registration** | Submit a few company details | Click **Instant Activate** | The provider reviews it |
| **Contract** | Sign an agreement | Click **Demo activate** | Book an onboarding call. Hopae activates it |

Company details you enter once are saved to the app's **Company Info** and prefilled for the next provider.

When you activate, you can include several connections of the same provider. They are submitted together and activate together.

## Statuses

    [*] --> NotActivated
    NotActivated --> Activated: direct (production)
    NotActivated --> Requested: submit
    Requested --> Activated: Instant Activate (sandbox)
    Requested --> Processing: review
    Processing --> Activated: approved
    Processing --> Rejected
    Rejected --> Requested: fix and resubmit
```
| Status | Meaning |
| :- | :- |
| **Not Activated** | Not set up yet |
| **Requested** | Submitted, waiting for review |
| **Processing** | Being reviewed and set up |
| **Rejected** | Something needs fixing. The reason is on the row |
| **Activated** | Ready to use |
| **N/A** | Not available for this app's environment, for example a production-only connection in a sandbox app |
Webhooks report the outcome as `activation.activated` or `activation.rejected`. See [Webhooks](/v2/guides/webhook-signing#events).
## Activated is not enabled
An activated connection is **available** to the app. Each [workflow](/v2/guides/verifications/workflows) still decides whether to **offer** it. New activations are enabled only in workflows with **Automatically enable newly activated connections** turned on. Elsewhere, enable them yourself.
